We’ve made several improvements to the system this week:


  • Reports templates now offer the ability to show or hide the school phone number on the report card.
  • Attendance Daily Digest and Homeroom Absence e-mails can now be sent to administrators as early as 7:00am.

  • Classes can now take attendance in as much as 15 periods. This can be configured in Settings > Attendance > Settings.

Middle Years:

  • The Personal Project and Community Project Academy Honesty Form is now available within the students’ Projects > Assessment tab. The form will automatically populate the Interview Notes as supervisor-student meetings and supervisor comment.


  • ATL assessment is now included in term grade Excel exports.

Upcoming Changes:

  • Group 4 Internal Assessment criteria is scheduled to go live early next week.

From the Support Desk: Why is my unit not showing the Next Chapter information?

October 15, 2014

Once Next Chapter has been enabled via Settings > General, you will be able to create Next Chapter units for all classes. Please notify us at to assist in enabling MYP Next Chapter for your school.

Once the Inquiry & Purpose tab has been completed in the unit planner, the Next Chapter information will be visible in the Units overview page:

If the old information is still showing via the Units tab in your class, this means that the Inquiry & Purpose page has not yet been completed in the unit planner:

From the Support Desk: Adding Authors to Units

Units in ManageBac are designed to be planned collaboratively. Multiple teachers can be added as unit authors via the Add Author button in the unit planner.

The dropdown will show a list of the teachers of the class. Before teachers can be added as unit authors, they must first be added as teachers of the class. You can add a teacher to a MYP or DP class via Overview > Edit Class Settings > Teachers > Add New Teacher.

You can add a teacher to a PYP class via Inquiry > Class > Add Teacher.

We’ve made several improvements to the system this week:


  • The Theory of Knowledge PPD is now available within the student’s ToK Worksheet via the Presentation tab.

  • Students can now view archived CAS or SA activities.
  • Subject Group names have been updated.

Middle Years:

  • Interdisciplinary Units can now be planned. This can be done within a unit via Inquiry & Purpose > Summary and Mark as Interdisciplinary Unit. For more guidance, please refer to the guide on Creating MYP Interdisciplinary Unit Plans. Note: we will offer the PDF planner as soon as the IB has finalized the IDU planner template. IDUs on report cards will also be offered at a later time.

From the Support Desk: MYP Language Acquisition (Part 3 of 3: Assessment)

When I create a task, it shows only one set of descriptors, but the task is for students at different phases.
In your gradebook, we can only show one set of descriptors. However, the descriptors shown to students and parents are based on the student’s phase. You can verify this by checking each individual student profile.

For example, in this screenshot Crispin received a 7 on Criterion A for the task Chinese Introductions. Crispin is taking the class at Phase 4.

Max received a 7 on Criterion A for the same task, but you can see his descriptors are different because he is a Phase 3 student.

How does this all look on report cards?
Same idea — we show the phase-specific information for each student. In the screenshot below, we automatically adjust the title of the class so that only Phase 3 shows, and the descriptors are all for Phase 3. (It’s Max’s report card.) Crispin’s report card would show Phase 4, and so on with the other students at different phases.

I don’t see Related Concepts or Objectives when I plan my unit.

Please first complete the Inquiry and Purpose tab. Once you have selected your Key Concept and Global Context, and completed your Statement of Inquiry and Lines of Inquiry, click Next.

Under the Assessment tab, the objectives and criteria will be visible. To select objectives from additional phases, click Show All Phases.

Lastly, navigate back to the Inquiry & Purpose tab. The Related Concepts will now be available.

I’m not seeing my subject offered.
We recommend an administrator on your account double-checks all enabled subjects under Settings > Middle Years > Subjects. For Language Acquisition subjects, please indicate the phases offered for each selected subject.

I teach phases 1, 2, 3, and 4. How do I mark each student’s phase?
When you add a new class, make sure to indicate all phases taught within the class.


Click on the Students tab to set the phase of each student.

We’ve made several improvements and changes to the system this week:


  • The demo sandbox has been updated to reflect the 2014-2015 academic year. You are free to explore all features in the system across all user types (administrators, teachers, students, parents)!
  • Attendance: Count Holidays as Rotation Days now has dual functions. Clicking dates once will turn the calendar date to the color yellow and will not consume a rotation day. Clicking dates a second time will turn the calendar date blue and will consume one rotation day.


Diploma Programme:

  • In Mathematical Studies DP unit plans, the syllabus content has been added.
  • Theory of Knowledge Prescribed Titles have been updated for May 2015.  The Areas of Knowledge have been updated to reflect the IB guide.

  • The Subject Group Overview has replaced the Vertical Planner.
  • Within MYP Next Chapter units, Hours taught is now available in the Summary tab. The hours appear in both the unit overview page and the PDF export.
  • Within MYP Next Chapter units, the Reflections & Evaluation tab now supports questions to focus on. The checked questions appear in both the unit overview page and the PDF export.

From the Support Desk: What happened to my PYP reflections?

Please rest assured all previous reflections for your unit are all available.

At the end of each academic year, we refresh the Reflections section of the planner so you can use it again for the coming year. This section of the planner — and only this section — refreshes every year. To access previous year reflections, please use the Academic Year dropdown at the top right.

This was implemented on the suggestion of one of our PYP coordinators in Mongolia last year.
